Flying Pond

Flying Pond is a beautiful pond nestled among the rolling hills of Central Maine. Like most lakes in Kennebec county the lake has been highly developed, however long stretches of natural shoreline still exist. Water quality is only marginally suited for cold water species management, since an oxygen deficiency exists in the deepest portions of the lake. Past stockings of salmon and lake trout were not successful in producing a quality fishery. This Department stocks brown trout annually and this has resulted in a good fishery. More recently, a brook trout stocking program was initiated. A program to bolster the smelt population was very successful and now the lake maintains one of the highest smelt populations in the region. Fishing for warm water species, principally largemouth and small mouth bass, and chain pickerel is exceptional.
A Public boat ramp to Flying Pond is located along
